Edamame Smash

I think everyone loves edamame. They’re delicious, good for you and fun to eat in their unshelled natural state. All you need do is boil, drain and heavily salt them. Then ‘have at it.’ Bite/suck those gems of goodness out of their pods. That’s basically how I’ve been eating them. They only variation was occasionally tossing shelled beans in a salad or mixed with rice in some Asian-inspired dishes. Until today.

Asian Brunch with Pork + Almond Meatballs, Salt + Pepper Shrimp + Black Bean Veggies

When my family and I decided to get together today to plan our excursions for an upcoming cruise to Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica, I said “I’ll make brunch.” And, I didn’t even skip a beat deciding what to make. No rush out to the market; rather, I made do with what was at hand…leftovers from my Asian Burger and Snow Pea Slaw.

As regular readers of FOODalogue know, I love to dabble with Asian ingredients at home. I don’t profess my recipes are an authentic representation of Asian cuisine. In fact, one of my readers recently pointed out that I mix traditional ingredients from various countries. Whatever. It sure tastes good! Continue Reading

Asian Pork Burger + Snow Pea Slaw

Here’s a little different take on a burger and slaw. It was made with not much forethought. In fact, I started out to do a stir fry and at the last minute decided I felt like having a burger so I just pushed forward. Had I taken an extra minute or two to think it through or googled for some ideas, it would have been even better.

But, come and take a look — and I’ll tell you what went right and what didn’t. Continue Reading

An Asian-Inspired Salmon Dinner for the Home Cook

I love cooking with Asian flavors. Coincidentally (or is it not?), whenever I do, it’s a healthy and colorful meal.

It’s just that simple.

Culinary Tour Around the World • Thailand • Blogger Round-Up

A couple of bloggers who started the journey with us didn’t show up for this stop on the tour. I’m surprised because Thai food is pretty well-known and appreciated across the world. But don’t despair. Those that did show up were really creative and provided an excellent representation of the flavors of Thailand.

Note: I toyed with the idea of canceling Egypt because I didn’t want to be seen as trivializing current events, but what better way for food bloggers to show solidarity than to showcase the food? Plus, we all have to eat so we’ll meet you next week at the pyramids.

Meantime, here’s the blogger round-up for Thailand. Enjoy! Continue Reading
