As many friends and visitors to FOOdalogue know, I’ve attended this 7-year-old annual event in Delray Beach for the past 5 years — and each year, as soon as it ends, I start looking forward to the next.

One night, 1,100 people sitting down for dinner at 1,369 feet of table that stretches down the main street of Delray Beach (voted #1 fun town in America). This year 19 local restaurants participated, each creating a special 4-course menu (with welcome drink and wine pairings). They also compete for the best table decor.

Before sitting down to enjoy dinner with your table mates, part of the fun is walking down the street and checking out all the tables and seeing what other restaurants did. Salt 7 took a well-deserved first place for table decor. Not only was the table and every place setting covered with gorgeous hydrangeas, but they had a structure built over it and  ‘artsy’ two-seaters at the ends. It was spectacular and my photo barely does it justice.

For those who wonder, the event is not a cheap (my reservation cost $150, tax + tip included), but it is a special and somewhat magical night … each and every time. This year $3.00 of each reservation was donated to a non-profit group assisting book funding and tutoring programs for children.

Based primarily on menu and then availability and price, I seem to have selected a different restaurant each time. They were all great! This year, I had the pleasure of joining the 32 East group. Their table was beautifully and tastefully set and they won 2nd prize.

But the setting wasn’t quite complete until my cousin and I both showed up — unknowingly, matching each other and the table! We caused quite a stir!Nova_3022March 30, 2015savor the avenue 2015
