Bloggers: Rising Up From the Ashes

We bloggers are a strong lot. We’re constantly educating ourselves. We work hard at understanding computer-speak and implementing new technology as it evolves. We continually work at upgrading our foodstyling and our photography skills. We struggle with every.single.written.word. We expose ourselves in so many ways. And we never give up!

Some readers may know my friend, Norma…we’ve been foodie (and personal) friends for 20+ years. About 15 months ago, when we were in Puerto Rico at a ‘friends’ reunion’, we began a blog-mentoring relationship. Consider me a mid-wife. I helped her give life to Platanos, Mangoes and Me! which was hosted on blogspot until…(pass the tissues), it unexpectedly disappeared shortly after its first anniversary this past March. We desperately tried to revive resuscitate reclaim find it. It was AWOL. It was awful.

But, as I said, we bloggers are strong. We persevere. I guess because we love what we do. When I was in NY recently, I helped Norma put the finishing touches on her new wordpress blog. My pay was ‘good food’, some of which you see here. Standouts were the incredible Torta de Santiago (Spanish almond cake), the very tasty white bean omelet with jamón serrano powder that we picnicked on, and the creative plantain bites topped with brandade. Go, visit Norma, give her some blog love…and she’ll reward you, too, with good food and warm stories.

On a different continent, I was delighted to see the return of Nuria of Spanish Recipes who had been missing in cyberspace for about a year. She’s back creating playful food and taking beautiful photos from her Barcelona kitchen. (Well, actually, I don’t know if the location is still Barcelona…but she’s back!)

Bienvenidos…there’s room for all of us!

I am sitting at my computer with tears in my eyes. This post has really moved me and I cannot thank you enough for all you support, help and “mucha paciencia” (a lot of patience) on your part. I am back mostly because of you and also the support of our fellow blogging family. I raise my spatula to you and crown you “la reina de los milagros” (the queen of miracles).
I am also happy to see you include Nuria, Spanish Recipes who I also missed and wondered where she was. I just saw her gazpacho post and was so impressed.
    Again, Amiga, I thank you.

Oh the pain of it all, so much of a blogger is in their words right here on the screen. Joan you are wonderful to help, you helped Norma, you have helped me- you are the best! So happy for her that she is back again! And her food looks fantastic- I will pop over to see more!

One of the best things about blogging, in my opinion, is the sense of community. I’m so glad Norma’s blog is back up and running, and you’re a great friend for helping her out, Joan. I’ll have to check out Nuria’s blog as well!
