The Statistics of Blogging for 2 Years

I let my second anniversary slip by without any fanfare. It’s not that I’ve become blasé about blogging; in fact, I devote a large amount of time and energy to FOODalogue. I nourish, caress and finesse it daily. I just didn’t associate the date (July 31) with its due importance. Tsk, Tsk.

Since birthdays and anniversaries are all about numbers, I thought I’d share a few to commemorate the passing of 2 years.

As of August 12, 2010:

# of posts 280
# of comments 3,891 (thank you readers)
# of spam averted 2,636 (scary, isn’t it? thank you askimet)
# of subscribers 329
# of  monthly page views average 6,500
# of twitter followers 676
# of FoodBuzz friends 239
# of facebook friends 189
# of FOODalogue profile views on FoodBuzz 10,196
# of linkedIn connections 42 linking to 2,074,479
# of linkedIn network 3084
# of reviews on urban spoon 12
# of foodgawker photos accepted 18
# of foodgawker photos rejected 39
# of tastespotting photos accepted 10; 2 pending
# of google mentions 12,000 (est.)

To put things in perspective, my readers who are food bloggers recognize that these numbers are probably middle-of-the-road at best. We are tens of thousands strong and it’s a big digital library for readers to choose from. However, I am proud of the strides I’ve made and the following I’ve developed because I’ve done it with integrity. I’ve rejected opportunities that might have increased these numbers but would have compromised my style and culinary point-of-view. With your continued support and my own efforts, I hope to have a much stronger report next year.

I invite you to read the post I wrote on the occasion of my first anniversary. The sentiment expressed still rings true and, once again, I find FOODalogue at another crossroad while I decide which path to take. (It’s an operational decision that won’t affect readers.)

Blogging has been a great learning experience and to each and everyone of you with whom I interact, I thank you for your interest and support.

FOODalogue will be announcing the itinerary for its 2011 Culinary Tour Around the World soon.

  23. Happy two year bloganniversary! You’ve accomplished a lot of great things over that time.

  24. Congratulations! we are almost the same age! I started mine August 2008 – except it was on spaces.live.com and there were no readers – well – 200 a week – and no one left comments because they had to have a windows.live.com account to leave one. Bazaar. It was not like that when I started with them, and they kept reassuring me that things would change. Finally, January first of this year – I “came out” with my new wordpress site and it has clearly changed my blogging life. I have an audience! Whoo-hoo! And, I have a huge data base because of the year and a half i was posting to myself.
    :)
Great work, Joan. I really enjoy your site.
