Honeydew Slush – A Healthy Summer Treat

No ice cream after dinner in the FOODalogue house. I’ve been making the MOST SIMPLE and refreshing summer treat…and it’s healthy.
2 cups of honeydew, 2 ice cubes, splash of water blended in Magic Bullet. Cheers!

Spicy + Savory Tomato Marmalade

Do you top your burger with a slice of tomato and a slice of onion?  A pickle perhaps? Ketchup? I’ve got a much better idea.

I made this dish and used it in lieu of any other topping. While it has all the basic flavors of ketchup and the usual toppings, it’s much more than a condiment. The flavors are very concentrated and depending on the amount of chili you add, it kicks! I made it up as I went along and overdid the chili so I’ll leave that quantity to you if you care to try the recipe. My lips still burn. It’s better than collagen! Continue Reading

A Trio of Tapas for Dinner

Warning: This post contains “food porn” and may cause hunger pangs.

I felt like something different for dinner. I wasn’t  in the mood for a traditional composed dinner plate or a bowl of anything, so I made a trio of tapas. I’ve certainly had tapas for dinner before (most notably and most enjoyably in Spain :) ). Continue Reading

Stuffed Calamari + Roasted Corn Relish

This is another good dish for summer because it’s relatively light and can be done on the grill…although I did mine indoors. Also summer is high season for tomato and corn-on-the cob so that was the inspiration for the relish side dish that accompanies the calamari. It’s also heavily laced with ‘gremolata’ which because of the fresh parsley and lemon screams ‘summer’ to me. Continue Reading

Bok Choy Salad + Sesame Tuna

We’re still in the first half of June and it’s hotter than Hades in Florida. The thermostat seems stuck in the mid-90s. I hope those people who complained our winter was “too cold” are happy now. I’m not. But I’m not here to vent; I’m here to talk about food. This is a good salad for a hot summer day. Continue Reading

Caramelized Red Cabbage + Sweet Potato

As food bloggers, we take pride in our work…from conception to execution and, finally, to the presentation. This is a really good recipe with a slightly flawed execution. That happens sometimes. And I guess it’s better than having a good execution of a flawed recipe. Right?

Maybe you wouldn’t even know it was flawed if I didn’t say so, but I’m telling you because I want to share it. Perhaps you’ll take this idea and improve on it. If you do, please come back and let me know. It has all the components I love…great taste, texture and beautiful colors. Continue Reading

Sicilian Caponata Pasta

I was surprised to note that I hadn’t posted this dish before because it is definitely one of my favorites and I make it frequently. I call it Sicilian because it has ‘ingredient pairings’ that are often found in rustic Sicilian dishes, like mixing savory and salty with a trace of sweet and citrus. You definitely want to try this recipe…even if you don’t like the second ingredient. :)

So, take out the soundtrack to “The Godfather ” and get ready to eat a dish that just builds on flavor…layer after layer…right up to and through the Finishing Touch(es).  Questa pasta ha un sapore molto buona! Continue Reading
