This was a surprising round-up to me. I expected lots of plantains. I expected black beans and rice. And I definitely was expecting lots of meals revolving around fatty cuts of pork and beef. But my expectations were definitely not in sync with the blogosphere.
Before clicking ‘read more’, can you guess which food item the first 5 contributing bloggers brought?
Who said bread?? Did you say sandwiches made of bread – or pastry?
Norma of Platanos, Mangoes and Me in NY made Pan Cubano (Cuban Bread) and her own creation of Papaya-Mango Butter.
Andrea of Family & Food in Germany made Pan Suave and Medianoche (Cuban Sandwich)
Erica of My Colombian Recipes made an Sandwich Elena Ruiz (Cuban Turkey Sandwich with surprise ingredients).
Natasha of 5 Star Foodie in VA made Pastelitos (Guava + Cheese filled pastries)
More Cuban bread. This time from Lara at The Lab in Missouri.
Here comes some protein:
First-time contributor Maja writes a bilingual blog (Macedonian and English) called Sitno Seckano with her sister. She made mojo-flavored pork chops.
Val of More Than Burnt Toast in Canada gave us another informative post and Mojo Chicken with Rice + Black Beans.
Cinzia of Cindy Star in IT provides the Mojito (cocktail of rum, sugar, mint).
And to end on a sweet note, Oz of Kitchen Butterfly in The Netherlands made Cuban Strawberries with Meringue Ice Cream.
And, as the saying goes, every good thing must come to end. The tour ends at our next destination, Puerto Rico. We’ll be arriving on or before March 15.

Everything looks so delicious!! What fun!
It all sounds so delicious Joan. “Visisting” Cuba was a wonderful trip down memory lane.
I was originally going to do a cuban sandwich but then went with the pastry
Love all the entries, fabulous!
Btw, finally was able to publish a post on lecithin, per your recommendation, thanks!
Great. I look forward to seeing it!
I, too, am surprised at the abundance of bread, but I have to say that all of the recipes look very tasty. I’m particularly intrigued by the Sandwich Elena Ruiz because that’s my boyfriend’s aunt’s name! lol
Everything looks wonderful. I can just imagine sitting down with all these wondeful dishes and just “comiendo todo” (eating all)
Thanks for including me.
Joan,
Thank you, as always, for visiting. I think the mojitos were my favorite part of this round-up!
What? I’m late again? Ay, Joan… lo siento… quería participar en el viaje a Cuba.
Great roundup and recipes!!! Hopefully, I’ll see you in Puerto Rico
Thanks, Joan, for the roundup. Looking forward to reading the roundup from Puerto Rico. Btw, the first link (Platanos, Mangoes and Me)isn’t working: it should be: http://platanosmangoesandme.blogspot.com/2010/03/pan-cubano-con-mantequilla-de-papaya-y.html
Thanks – I’ll correct it.
They all look fantastic but I’m a little partial to a mojito, every now and then!
I’m going to miss having a ‘destination’ after next week
. Ha ha. Am planning on cooking my way through some Nigerian staples……but not sure yet! Thanks for being a gracious hostess – full of heart!
Thank you for being such a generous contributor!

Yeah, I’m surprised about the prevalence of bread too, but a good Cuban sandwich is a thing of beauty.
What I loved most of all was the presentations, in particular the Mojitos with the cigars and Barcardi, just so typical except in my time it would have been a Cuba Libre.
True! I’d forgotten about Cuba Libres.
Wonderful Cuban dishes!!!! I want to take a airplane to Cuba and eat all that fantastic food! I love mojitos
What tasty dishes this tour served up. Such a nice variety too. I think I will order a Cuban sandwich next time I am out as I haven’t had one in a while! and a mojito too!
Mojo with rice and beans, you know I’m in! The roundup is fantastic Joan, can’t wait for Puerto Rico!
