What Color is Your World?

I’m having a lazy Saturday. It’s raining and cold in FL – there are even freeze warnings and snow flurry predictions for some areas. A good day to stay inside.

While I sat at the table over lunch, I somehow (and suddenly) became aware that I was looking at a lot of green so I picked up up my camera and created a project that took the better part of the afternoon.

Side Story: Years ago I saw “Smoke”, a small independent movie starring Harvey Keitel. It wasn’t a great film but I was fascinated with the character who photographed the same corner at the same time every day for a long period of time and ended up creating an epic work of images that varied because of weather and traffic variances. The prospect of doing something similar stayed with me for many years, but I could not find my muse.

At the beginning of the year, a lot of bloggers joined a ’365′ project where you post a photo a day. I wanted to join but, again, could not find my muse — and I wasn’t going to do more food photos.

I don’t know if this is finding my muse but, at least, I found a theme  and a project for the day — and I learned something about myself in the process. Apparently, my world is green…and that was quite a revelation. If you had asked me my favorite color, I don’t think I would have said green…but, I didn’t realize how green my world was. Yikes, I realize as I type this that even my blog is green!  I guess being green is a good thing these days – green means being environmentally-correct, it signifies money, it conjures up images of fresh food, lush tropical resorts and the Garden of Eden.

This is a wonderful post Joan…it really makes you examine the environment around you. I think mine’s blue (not because of any sad reasons). Hmmm…need to check again..

Great post. I realized one day that my house was full of green. Every time I bought a little thing for the house, it was green. When I sold my house, the pictures were so green! I had to edit in case people hated my greens!

Lovely post and photos Joan. As I look around, I see my world as a rainbow. Lots of colors but all about the earth; shades of blue, green, beige, and terracotta.

    What nice pictures, Joan!
To tell you the truth, green is also one of my favorite color!
But I should say I love all, depending on season, fashion, mood of the moment, except one: definetely I don’t like yellow!
See you soon in the colorful Mexico!

A thought-provoking post. While I do have favorite colors, looking around our home I’d have to say there’s a very large color palette which I’d say plays out in my quilts as well. I love to play with color and no one color seems to dominate. Thanks for a great insight.

My clothes, my house, my hair and make-up all center around golds and rust with a hint of brown here and there.

  9. I love green. My kitchen is green. My color, however, is white although no one would know that really as my house also has a lot of color. But there is white and aqua everywhere. But then there are pops of red. I’m many people. :)

Green is life, fresh, new, and peaceful, soulful.

I used to think that I didn’t like green, but last year I realized that green was everywhere in my life, too, hehe. I don’t have that much green around my house, but I still think those are very good pictures :)

  13. Marie says:

Nice post Joan, and a great idea to do. I think I might be brown tones.

Great photos and a learning experience. Me – red, yellow, golds. I think….
