FOODalogue’s House Seasoning

There are certain dry seasonings I use more than others but I have a cupboard full of less frequently used choices like caraway seeds, pumpkin spice, tumeric, etc. Don’t we all? And sometimes it ticks me off to fish around the cabinet and take out 5 containers to season one item of food. So, the other day I decided to make my own blend. You know, like the expensive ones you see in the supermarket and say “I could make that”. Well, I did!

I poured equal portions of my most frequently used seasonings into my favorite kitchen item, the Magic Bullet, and pulsed. Now all I have to do is grab a pinch. Kitchen efficiency? culinary smarts? or the height of laziness?

My favorite blend: coarse salt, star anise, fennel seeds, red pepper flakes, oregano and Spanish paprika.

    I finally have great storage for my dry spices in this house but in order to see what’s in the bottles without taking them out, I have to place labels on the top. It works except for the fact that I still end up having duplicates of things that fall over or get pushed to the back. I like your idea of making blends. I find I use the same combos in lots of dishes. Very efficient, Joan.

  3. L’il Burnt Toast uses her Magic Bullet for smoothies…this would work in my Cuisinart coffee grinder…I don’t drink coffee so it needs to feel useful.

    This is a great idea. Never thought of it myself but have caught myself buying an expensive spice and herb mixture I could make.

  7. This would also make a great rub for chicken pork or lamb.

  8. Your own mixed seasonings are always the best as you can put all your favorites in it!
