Culinary Tour 2010 • Nicaragua Round-Up

January 27, 2010 by Joan in Culinary Tour Around the World, Events | 15 Comments

Everyone enjoyed their forays into the cuisine of Nicaragua. Thank you bloggers, readers and commenters.

In this round-up, we have breakfast, refreshing drinks, rice dishes and some beautiful desserts.

Val from More Than Burnt Toast in Canada did not disappoint when she showed up with another tasty story and this Tres Leches Cake.

Natasha of 5 Star Foodie in VA made Pio Quinto, a Nicaraguan rum cake but she took creative license and lightened up the recipe.

Peter of Souvlaki for the Soul in Australia made a refreshing chilled pineapple and rice drink.

Giz (Mary) from An Equal Opportunity Kitchen in Canada made a typical Nicaraguan breakfast for us.

Lara from The Lab in Missouri joined us for the first time with Gallo de Pico which she spiced up a bit for her family’s tastes.

Oz from Kitchen Butterfly in The Netherlands started with ingredients to make horchata flavored with tonka beans and ended up also presenting creme brulee, rice pudding and petit fours.

Jolita of Surfing the World Cuisine in Istanbul took inspiration from gallo de pinto but made it her own by substituting lentils for beans and topping it with a fried egg and cabbage salad.

Cinza of CindyStar in Lake Garda, IT made Rosquillas, corn-flour cookies from the Somoto area of Nicaragua.

And if you missed it, FOODalogue made Vigorón and Indio Viejo (pictured here).

Next Stop. Argentina, on or about February 1.
