I Love FoodBuzz! Part 2

November 14, 2009 by Joan in Blogging, Travel Retrospectives | 22 Comments

So there I was at the FoodBuzz Festival in San Francisco…

One of the best things about the event was the opportunity to interact in a personal way with so many interesting people. From the start of my blogging ‘career’, I’ve been thrilled with receiving comments from people all over the world who somehow found FOODalogue…and me. The Festival brought together bloggers from 27 states plus 4 countries. I wish I had met more of them. I know now that next time I will employ a ‘speed-dating’ approach to meeting people.

Foodie Friends

Come meet some of my foodie friends. It was interesting to note that the bloggers I’d bonded with online were the same ones I bonded with in person. Curious, n’ cest pas? Here’s my posse.

Mary (Giz) from Equal Opportunity Kitchen, Val from More than Burnt Toast

Peter of Souvlaki for the Soul who flew in from Australia.

Roberto and Jenn from The Leftover Queen

Christy (photographer)  and Peter (chef) from FotoCuisine

Lori Lynne of Taste with the Eyes and Father Adam

Not pictured: I was so happy to meet Angela of Spinach Tiger, Greg of Sippity Sup and, of course, the popular Marc of No Recipes and the irrepressible Jerry of Cooking by the Seat of the Pants. I also made some new friends and I’d like to give a shout-out to Sherman of Sherman’s Food Adventures, Mike of gastronomicmuse, tracy of shutterbean,  Michele of Cooking with Michele, Kimberly of Poor Girl Eats Well, Claudia of jetset wisdom, and Catherine of Munchie Musings. There were so many more I wanted to meet, but I guess that will have to wait until next year.

The Outstanding in the Field Dinner

This was my favorite event. Picture this: we are transported by bus to a remote location in a commercial area, walked up a gangplank and, voila, a produce warehouse has been turned into the scene of an incredible dinner party. Winding and never-ending tables and open cooking by the chefs of Namu, an Asian-inspired, sustainable, seasonal, local and family owned-operated restaurant. Wines were paired to the menu by Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon.

The welcome Albariño wine from Galicia (birthplace of my maternal grandparents)

These photos are just a glimpse at a few of the courses. I either had camera battery failure or juice of the grape influence, so that’s all there is folks. I hope you can read the menu to see the wonderful and exotic dinner items.

Please visit my linked “foodie friends” for more photos and other perspectives of the weekend.

The Brunch

Besides the buffet of brunch items, there was a Skyy Bloody Mary fix-it-yourself bar. I opted for a Virgin Mary (sorry Skyy) and was very impressed with the mix which was spicy and heavily influenced by fennel seeds (my favorite herb/seasoning).

Congratulations to all the winners of the first-ever FoodBuzz Blog Awards and thanks again to FoodBuzz for a great weekend!
