Like so many other travelers, I fell in love with San Francisco on my very first trip some 20 years ago. What’s wonderful about SF is that on this, my fourth trip, I spent 5 nights/4 days and repeated nothing from the previous 3 trips. Here I am crossing the bay to lunch in Sausalito.
And here are some scenic and food photos with a little commentary and a couple of restaurant reviews.
I was just walking down the street when I was struck by the colors of Fall.
A Ferry Ride to Sausalito for Lunch.

Seafood Salad of shrimp, crab, scallops and halibut at the Spinnaker.

Picnic lunch on the grounds of Sattui Winery.
Limón (Peruvian) Restaurant, 524 Valencia Street (Mission District)
Before my trip I read a New York Times review of a Peruvian restaurant in SF and that got me in the zone for Peruvian so I started researching other restaurants online. By the time I got to SF I had the top 3 names to choose between so I asked the folks at FoodBuzz which one I should go to and they suggested Limón. From appetizer to dessert, Limón did not disappoint. The restaurant had a great vibe and we had a delicious meal.
Char-grilled octopus, Andean pepper oil, Botija olive foam
Whole Crispy Red Snapper, Coconut Fried Rice, Rocoto Curry Sauce. The presentation was spectacular though I would have preferred the entire fish to be fried and not just the carcass.
Coco Trio (coconut-caramel maki, coconut sorbet and mini-milk shake)
Pizzeria Delfina “the best pizza“??? (Mission District)
OK – here’s where I part with the wide consensus of opinion. While perfectly acceptable, it was hardly the best pizza I ever had. Not even close. On top of that, it was pricey for what it was.
And I’m sorry to say the cannoli, while pretty, was a disappointment as well. Next time I’ll go to North Beach.

Great pics Joan! I’ve been to Delfina a few times and have always had a good, decent pizza. (Although I have never tried the sweets). The Peruvian restaurant looks amazing!
It was ‘good’ and ‘decent’ but it was not ‘the best’ (IMO)
Have never witnessed a green filled cannoli, eeewww. The photos are wonderful Joan. I’ve never been to SF, thanks for giving me a glimpse. The wine country photos, in particular the bar shot with all the glasses, is great. Capturing the reflections on the bar, sweet!
It wasn’t green-filled but, rather, the ends had been dipped in some crumbled pistachios.
Thanks for sharing some of your memories of San Francisco Joan. On my last visit I had lunch at Sausalito. Just a beautifil treasure on the california coast. I agree about the pizza as well.We had pizza at Pizzella which was also raved about..I lost a filling..wink.. I think SF is just not a pizza town..maybe Chicago or New York or my town:D
YOU ALWAYS MAKE ME HUNGRY WHEN I READ YOUR BLOGS. THE FOOD LOOKS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD AND SO DO YOU! ARE YOU EXERCISING? GOING TO LUNCH WITH RAY AND CARRIE ON THURSDAY. MAYBE EVEN A TRIP TO MYSTIC POINTE TO SEE THE NEW RENOVATIONS.
Joni:
You know the empanada made me crazy as my husband and friends in New York calls me the empanada queen. I cannot wait to make something like this and save it for when I start my new blog. Also the Buddah’s hand…wil ty to think of something to make with it when I do my private cooking. You always amaze me amiga
I had a coffee and danish near where you took that pic in Sausalito. Have you seen the real estate prices there?
No…but I’m guessing high even in a poor market.
I love SF and I am so sad I couldn’t make it this time
Wonderful pictures!
looks like a great trip!
Joan I read the entire Foodalogue of your trip and everything sounded so wonderful. You really did meet some big names in blogging, wow! That had to be great. Too bad that cannoli was not good, I am picky about my cannoli! Some day I hope to go to one of these conventions and meet all my blogging friends. Can’t wait to see what you have for us next.
My first and unique time to San Francisco was a great experience for me too! It’s such a fantastic city!!!! Instead of Sausalito, I visited Alcatraz… there’s a long story there, too long ;D
Thanks for showing it all and make me think about old good times Joan!
Great pictures,Joan!I want to visit SF soon
Great post Joan! Lovely write up and beautiful pictures. Loved reading about your experience.
Your pictures are stunning. It was a pleasure to meet you and I would be thrilled if you could do something for Dec. 1. Oh, BTW, I think Peter’s picture of you did NOT do you justice. Harsh lighting.
I never allow night photos anymore if I can help it.
Hi Joan. Wow! I’m glad to read that you made the most of your Foodbuzz trip to SF. It looks like you had a great time. Again, it sure was nice meeting you.
It certainly looks like you made the most of your time in the “City By The Bay”. That pizza looks awesome, but I remember you tweeting is was just ok. Looks can be deceiving… GREG
