The BloggerAid Cook Book is a book for all seasons. It’s for cooks on the lookout for new recipes and for page-thumbers who enjoy reading about what people in different countries eat. And, it’s for the big-hearted among you who want to help feed the growing number of millions of school-aged children who live in poverty and go with little to no food daily.
By purchasing this book and thereby supporting the School Meals program, you not only help feed children but you educate them as well.
“In countries where school attendance is low, the promise of at least one nutritious meal each day boosts enrollment and promotes regular attendance…which helps to raise awareness of hunger in younger generations so that they grow to be strong role models for their own children. Not only does this program raise money to feed hungry children and their families but it also allows these same children to have an education. This is the best thing we can give our kids to break the cycle of hunger and poverty.”
If this narrative tugs on your heart strings, GOOD. We have much to be thankful for! So, why not include a little charity in your holiday gift-giving? The cookbook makes a great gift for the foodie in your life (even if it’s yourself) and 100% of the proceeds go to “School Meals”, a World Food Programme effort, currently feeding 22 million children.
The food bloggers who contributed their original family recipes to the book come from all around the world, close to 150 of us. But none of this would have been possible without the ‘single step’ and the ‘germ of an ambitious idea’ born from two extraordinary and big-hearted women, Val of More Than Burnt Toast and Giz of An Equal Opportunity Kitchen, who co-founded BloggerAid-Changing the Face of Famine, an online social network of food bloggers. They spearheaded the whole project from start to finish, along with the help of Jeanne of Cook Sister as co-editor.
I can tell you this cookbook was a labor of love, dwarfed only by a huge sense of humanity. It started with building the network and finding the right charity to link up with, but I imagine in retrospect that was probably the easy part. They then went through what I can only guess was an organizational nightmare sorting, editing, and who knows what else they had to do with all the volunteer recipes and food photos. Followed only by the ‘small’
task of learning how to publish a book! An international one, at that! This endeavor was a lot more than sharing a recipe online…so BRAVO, ladies!
Enough tugs on your heart and conscious, shall I tease you with just a few of the recipes? Let’s whet your appetite.

Right now the book is ‘hot off the press’. Your support is needed to make the effort a success. No time is better than now. It’s a worthy cause made sweeter by a very nice cookbook which makes an excellent gift. The Preface from the co-founders, the Forward from the Friends of the World Food Programme and the food blogger bios alone are worth the read…not to mention the recipes! Food = Love, Sharing and Giving.
