A Culinary Tour Around the World – 2010

culinarytourthumbnailTake out your sombreros…shake your maracas…slap your conga…and get into a Latin vibe because A Culinary Tour Around the World is going South of the Border! We’re headed to Mexico, Latin + South America and a few Caribbean Islands.

Since we’re quickly approaching the holiday season and we’ll all be busy, this is a ‘save-the-date’ notice. Embarkation is scheduled for January 11, 2010.The first stop is Mexico, a colorful country that has so much more to offer than tacos, burritos and the Mexican Hat Dance. Qué viva Mejico! After that, we will visit El Salvador, Nicaragua, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Cuba. 10 weeks on the virtual road.

Cook’s Choice. Last year, we prepared a ‘national’ dish of our choice at each destination. I thought I’d shake it up a bit this year for you (and me) so I’m creating “Cook’s Choice”.

  • Traditional: you recreate the country’s national dish or any other traditional dish.
  • Contemporary: you can take that recipe and make it Nuevo Latino (contemporize  it).
  • Algo Nuevo (something new): or, you can make something totally your own using the flavors and techniques of the country we are visiting.

Details. A final itinerary and further information will be posted towards the end of the year. Meantime, if you want to start researching the various cuisines, váyanse! (go for it).

In 2009 we visited 13 countries in 13 weeks and provided about 130 recipes for our readers. To revisit those countries for a taste of the local cuisine, click here.

NOTE: Some recipes found on FOODalogue are offered without ingredient quantities. They're meant as a guide to food pairings and techniques to be experimented with … in your own kitchen … to your own spice and taste levels … to your preferred portion sizes … and to however many people you’re cooking for. A perfect meal has multiple levels of flavor and textures, bright colors and tastes, and healthy(ish) choices. It's all about enjoyment. Enjoy the process, the presentation and the just rewards...eating!
